Happy New Year

Jan 2, 2026

A couple days ago a dear friend was reflecting on the absence of a habit that had fallen away over the holidays. "I miss my routine!" she said. For me, this is one of the sacred practices of the winter holidays: enjoying indulgence in a way that affirms my love for the patterns in which I choose to live more commonly. Today is January 2nd and I am made far more than usual of cheese, candy canes, caffeine, and alcohol. I enjoyed my time with them tremendously and now I'm yearning for leafy greens and kombucha, mornings on the yoga mat, a good hard row and run. It's going to be a joy to return to doing so daily because, having set it all down, I ache for my healthful nest of good patterns now. That's just what my friend said next, too!

"I miss my routine," she said, "And I can follow my longing to get back to it!"

Isn't that beautiful? I love the warmth of it. I shiver with delight at the absolute lack of self-judgement in it. The idea that the cultivation of positive habits can arise from the seed of our longing for what those habits offer is so loving and healthful. It's a wonderful idea to hold at this time of year. I wanted to pop by today to offer you the small gift of it. I hope that this idea will grow for you, like a seed. I invite you to muse with me: What are you longing for? What do you wish to turn your energy toward in the year ahead, or simply next and now? What do you wish to allow to fall away? What shape do you want to cultivate for your days, what tone for your heart and mind?

I'm enjoying contemplating these contemplations myself. I look forward to sharing them with you! And I'm here to support you in this.

Dahlia's Resources

Workshops for Living
These workshops center on guided meditation practice. My meditation tends toward contemplative, open-orientation practices; we do not strive to control the thoughts, we simply step into presence with ourselves, cultivating friendly relationship with all that we are. We build community and walk the path of life together. You can come in joy and you can come in sorrow, arrive bedraggled or bedazzled. Our next Workshop for Living begins January 17th. It's entitled Cosmic Grounding, and it will focus on nourishing our connection to life. Rooting deeply into existence to steady ourselves for the wild ride of this time in the world. This is the spiritual cornerstone of what I offer.

Thanks to Ash for this photograph of her cat Cypress checking me out during yoga!

Of course the best photograph of the ones I tried to take just before we hit the dancefloor on New Year's Eve was the spontaneous one where James nommed me just as I hit the button.

Happy New Year, friends. Happy turning of the light. Happy turning of the page.

I look forward with all my heart to living onward with you in 2026. So glad to be in this whole human endeavor with you.

Love,
Dahlia
